POSITION: Computer Technician Youth Apprentice
LOCATION: Department of Information Technology
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs maintenance on CCPS issued laptops, desktops and other various IT equipment throughout Calvert County Public Schools’ buildings under the supervision and direction of an IT supervisor or manager or technician. The apprentice will carry out all assigned duties to ensure CCPS equipment is updated, maintained and properly secure.
Position may require long periods of standing and lifting of materials needed to complete assignments.
REPORTS TO: Director and Supervisor of Information Technology
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of employment, the candidate must:
- Be approved for participation in the Apprenticeship Maryland Program pathway as a current Calvert County Public Schools student.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:(These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Unpack, pack, update and deliver laptops and desktops.
- Clean and deploy current Windows image on devices.
- Test laptops and desktops.
- Maintain log of help desk work orders.
- Apprentices will have increasing responsibility as they progress through the apprenticeship.
- Interprets instructions, drawings and O/M manuals.
- Assists in the establishment of an inventory of equipment specific to each building.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
- Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
OTHER DUTIES: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)
Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director or Supervisor of Information Technology or designee.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking. Transport and unpacking of items not to exceed fifty (50) pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Apprentice assignment. Hours reimbursed at current Maryland State minimum wage rate. If chosen for this position, the candidate is encouraged to enroll in direct deposit.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the apprenticeship agreement.
EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION: October 1, 2024. The position will end on June 15, 2025 or once the apprentice has completed 450 on the job hours total.
