POSITION:   Head Wrestling Coach

 

LOCATION: HUntingtown High School

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  It is the job of every coach to instill positive and ethical values in student athletes through sports. The program should facilitate the social and emotional growth of every student athlete while also improving athletic skills. 

 

REPORTS TO:  School Principal/Activities Director

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:  

  1. Excellent communication skills
  2. Demonstrated management, leadership and human relations skills.
  3. Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions.
  4. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the duties and responsibilities listed below
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Develop and implement an athlete-centered coaching philosophy.
  2. Identify, model and teach positive values and behaviors through sports.
  3. Demonstrate ethical conduct.
  4. Prevent injuries by ensuring the facility and equipment is safe and appropriate.
  5. Monitor environmental conditions and modify participation as needed.
  6. Recognize injuries and provide immediate and appropriate care.
  7. Design and implement a training, conditioning, recovery and nutritional program for your team.
  8. Facilitate the social and emotional growth of athletes by creating a positive athletic environment.
  9. Provide an opportunity for athletes to learn responsibility and leadership.
  10. Develop and monitor goals for each athlete and the program.
  11. Organize and plan practices to maximize performance, time on task and resources.
  12. Utilize appropriate instructional and communication strategies to enhance learning.
  13. Demonstrate and utilize appropriate motivational techniques to enhance performance.
  14. Know and understand the skills and strategies associated with the sport.
  15. Use appropriate scouting, planning, preparation and analysis for games.
  16. Demonstrate effective game management.
  17. Create a positive program, public relationship with your parents, school and community.
  18. Demonstrate fiscal and organizational record keeping responsibility for your program.
  19. Facilitate and document an emergency action plan for your program.
  20. Implement an effective evaluation technique for team, coaches and player performance.
  21. Fulfill all legal responsibilities and risk management procedures associated with coaching.
  22. Must have completed a Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association approved course in the care and prevention of athletic injuries by the end of the first year of coaching.
  23. Must earn Accredited Interscholastic Coach certification from the National Federation of High Schools by the end of the first year of coaching.

OTHER DUTIES:  Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and/or Activities Director.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.

 

UNUSUAL DEMANDS:  None

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current year Extra Pay for Extra Duty Longevity Pay Schedule.

 

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

 

EVALUATION:   Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:  On or after August 01,2024.

References must be directly related to work experience and must include immediate supervisor. 

 

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
