NOTICE OF VACANCY January 29, 2024 POSITION: TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION AND LIBRARY SPECIALIST LOCATION: CENTRAL OFFICE POSITION SUMMARY: The technology integration and library specialist collaborate with appropriate instructional and technical staff to support, manage, and optimize the use of instructional technology to support quality teaching and learning. Provides leadership, professional development, and instructional support to the school community. The technology integration and librarian specialist plan and administers the district’s vision for the school library program. Plans and provides professional development and training to school librarians. Assists school librarians in managing materials and equipment for schools. Communicates the district library media program to supervisors, administrators, staff, students and parents, and the broader community. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Instructional Technology EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
  • An Educator Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; and
  • A Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in School Library Media or a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS).
  • Have at least three (3) years of successful teaching experience within a library setting which includes integration of technology. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of employment, the candidate must have:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective instructional practices and understanding of the teaching/learning process while keeping abreast of innovative teaching methods, new instructional technologies and ideas.
  • Demonstrates experience providing professional development to staff and/or community members in several ways: modeling, one-on-one, small group, large group, online, or blended model.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop short and long-range plans for the district and building level school library programs in collaboration with other district leadership.
  • Understands the relevancy of the school library program and instructional technology as it aligns to the district’s mission, goals and objectives, and administrative and educational policies.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of current district library databases and instructional technology tools and their effective use for classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS), the National School Library Standards, and Maryland School Library Standards, The Maryland Technology Education Standards, and the International Society for Technology in Education Standards (ISTE).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of SAMR model, TPACK framework, Deeper Learning Competencies and Future Ready Skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrates the ability to design and deliver technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Holds a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Demonstrates success in accomplishing tasks akin to the responsibilities listed below.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:
  • Assesses student and program needs by reviewing data, such as student assessment and program evaluation, to help students succeed in a PreK-12 instructional program.
  • Collaborates with other professionals to plan and implement the PreK-12 instructional program.
  • Organizes, develops, and provides professional development opportunities for Calvert County Public Schools during the regular workday, after school, online, and during the summer when appropriate.
  • Evaluates, formulates, oversees, and administers a progressive school library program based on a collaboratively developed action plan directed by the district’s mission statement, goals, and objectives to support increased student achievement while interfacing with academic and technology integration.
  • Prepares and administers the budget for Calvert County Public School libraries.
  • Prepares and revises district school library procedures as needed.
  • Organizes and facilitates the reconsideration of library materials committee meetings.
  • Serves as a liaison to the public library.
  • Communicates data pertaining to school libraries as required to district, state, or national agencies.
  • Collaborates with the Department of Instruction, the Department of Information Technology, and teachers to integrate technology in the classroom by observing current teaching methods, devising innovative methods, and facilitating the adoption of such methods to support the implementation of effective technology-infused lessons into instruction.
  • Collaborates in the evaluation, selection and implementation of instructional technology and school library software as it pertains to data privacy and accessibility.
  • Develops, implements, and supports curriculum for school libraries and instructional technology.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities to maintain expertise in school librarianship and instructional technology.
  • Collaborates with the Departments of Instruction and Information Technology to instruct and assist, track, maintain, and analyze the use of various hardware and software utilized for technology objectives and initiatives.
  • Maintains and tracks usages of district purchased databases for the school libraries.
  • Works directly with staff, students, and parents to resolve technology concerns and conflicts.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works well under stress and meets all deadlines. OTHER JOB DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
  • Performs related work as required or assigned by the Supervisor of Instructional Technology.
  • Works flexible hours, as necessary. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires traveling between schools and may require significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment. FLSA STATUS: Exempt TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven (11) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.
