POSITION:  MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL – TEACHER AND COUNSELOR

 

LOCATION:  To be determined

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  CCPS expects to have vacancies in grades 6-8 for General Education, Special Education, English Language Learners, Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Related Arts Teachers and Counselors at regional schools for a middle school summer school program. Summer school sites: Southern Middle and Windy Hill Middle.

 

Middle School Summer School will begin on July 8, 2024, and run through July 30, 2024. The student day will be 3.75 hours Monday through Thursday, with instruction in English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Creative Arts or Physical Education. Additional mental health support will be available. This integrated experience focuses on skills needed to access the requisite curriculum in the next grade. All instruction will be in-person. 

  • Summer school will run for 14 days.
  • Workday is 4.25 hours, including planning time.
  • Teachers will be required to attend 7 hours of pre-service to prepare for the experience and 2 hours post-service to include completion of end-of-program grading and required documentation of recovery/compensatory services provided to identified students when applicable.
  • Position availability and work location are contingent on student enrollment.

 

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for: 

  • MSDE Certification preferred for teachers, required for counselors.
  • Current college students pursuing a degree in English, Science, Social Studies, Math education, or special education will be considered.
  • Instructional assistants and substitute teachers will be considered.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The pay rate is based on the 2023-2024 Workshop Pay and Special Pay for Employees.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

 

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.

 

House Bill 486 – Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention Statement

Pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors. Applicants should also include contact information for organizations in which you have volunteered, coached, mentor, tutored or otherwise had direct contact with minors.
